Itinerary description
A walk predominantly on the flood embankment, so frankly not the most interesting part of The Great Ouse Way. Ely is well worth a visit but the surrounding countryside is typical flat Fenland which, unless you enjoy that sort of landscape, can be a bit tedious. The walk can be made into a circle, which we did but did not record, by walking to Haddenham and catching the bus back to Ely. This adds a further 5km or so to the walk and I have rated the walk overall as moderate simply because of the length. Most of the opportunities for eating are in Ely, but Haddenham does have a cafe and there is a chance to get ice-cream at the Fish and Duck Marina. On a hot day there is very little shade, so take at least twice as much water as you think you will need.
