Waypoints

Grayson Highlands Backpacker/Overnight Lot

Starting point. Requires reservation ahead of time. Need to "check-out" of the lot by noon, so plan accordingly

Follow the AT to the left to head towards Mt Rogers/Thomas Knob Shelter

Cross Horse Trail N and continue on the AT

Stay on the AT Southbound

Stop to enjoy some bouldering here

Follow the AT Southbound (to the left) towards Mt Rogers

The section from here to Mt Rogers is an out-and-back section to the summit. Will pass by Thomas Knob shelter where you can refill on water if needed. Beautiful views of the valley on the way to Mt Rogers.

Mount Rogers Summit

Not a great view, but it's the highest point in VA After reaching summit, turn around and return to the AT and follow it Northbound back to Crest Trail

After Mt Rogers out-and-back, return to this intersection and take Crest Trail

Look for campsite location around here

Follow the Pine Mountain Rd towards Scales Trail (to the south)

Follow Scales Trail southbound

Follow AT Southbound (to the right)

Bear Box Location

Wise Shelter on AT

Water source (Big Wilson Creek)

Take the AT Spur Trail back to the parking lot (turn left)
