CQM: “Rivers are Paths That Walk, and that carry you where you want to go. " (Blaise Pascal)

The Gatineau River is a river in Quebec, a tributary of the Outaouais in Canada. Known to Native Americans as Madôbadzoak, the rippled river, the Gatineau River has its source in the Lac du Pain de Sucre sector, about 15 km northeast of Lac Échouani and south of Lac Radisson.

443 km long, it generally flows south, crosses the Baskatong reservoir and ends its course in the Ottawa River, of which it is the largest tributary. It would be named in honor of explorer Nicolas Gatineau.

CQM 2013 La Gatineau (Chelsea Loop) - Parc de la Gatineau Park (Domaine Mackenzie-King Estate)

Mackenzie King Estate Such a beautiful place to discover The Mackenzie King Estate is an invaluable legacy. This 231-hectare (2.31 km2) country estate belonged to William Lyon Mackenzie King, the 10th prime minister of Canada who, as such, remained in office for the longest time. Upon his death, and after spending nearly 50 years beautifying and expanding his property (from 1903 to 1950), King bequeathed his beloved domain to the Canadian people. It is now part of Gatineau Park, the conservation park of Canada's Capital Region managed by the National Capital Commission (NCC). One of the jewels of the Park The Domaine is a beautiful place where it is good to spend the day in the countryside. Upon your arrival, you are transported at the beginning of the last century. Savor the tranquility that reigns in the trails or let our guide-interpreters tell you the places. The faithfully restored cottages are accessible and offer interactive displays for the whole family. Treat yourself to a relaxing break, admiring the splendid gardens and ruins full of history, or sipping a delicious tea on the main verandah of the Mackenzie King coffee and teahouse.

CQM 2013 La Gatineau (Chelsea Loop) - St. Stephen's Parish

St. Stephen’s Parish – 150 Years of History St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Parish, one of the oldest parishes of the Gatineau-Hull Diocese, celebrated its 150th anniversary on October 15, 1995. For some time prior to 1845, the scattered Catholic community of Chelsea was held together as a mission, served from the nearby parish of Aylmer, Quebec. In part, the congregation was composed of settlers from Ireland who pioneered in the rough and heavily wooded land surrounding Chelsea, Old Chelsea, Kingsmere, and Meach Lake. The first missionary to serve the community on a regular basis was Rev. Father Desautels, parish priest of Aylmer. On his trips between Aylmer and Chelsea, he was accompanied by Jeremiah Blake, an Aylmer resident, who assisted as acolyte and who directed the first choir after the Parish of St-Stephen’s had been established. https://ststephenchelsea.wordpress.com/organization/st-stephens-parish-150-years-of-history/
