Itinerary description

Picked a great weekend for this one: Jumped on New Brunswick's Grand Manan Adventure to Flagg Cove then by cab to Southwest Head where I spent a moonlit night west of the communication tower in preparation for this hike. Day1: 14km Southwest Lighthouse to Little Dark Harbor. Day2: 14km Little Dark Harbor to Whistle. A number of ravines to cross in the northern section, a large one at Dark Harbour and a second at Money Cove. Finished up in early evening with enough time to catch the ferry back to the mainland. Very challenging and memorable experience. Highly recommended.

Waypoints

Dark Harbour

An number of lakes and wetlands from atop Grand Manan plateau feed Dark Harbour Brook as it travels west dropping 150m to Dark Harbour and the Bay of Fundy.

Hay Point

Located on the SW end of Grand Manan Island a lone picnic table placed in the middle of a grassy field serves as a great rest stop. This picturesque area is scattered with wind swept trees adjacent to a rugged shoreline.

Little Dark Harbour

Located 5km south of its big brother Little Dark Harbour made for a nice mid-route campsite.

Money Cove

Situated in the remote NW corner of Grand Manan Money Cove is fed by a stream of the same name which crosses Lighthouse Trail 1km inland.

Pandora Head

The remote rugged western coast forms a shoulder a third way up Grand Manan Island. This small open area 100m above the sea makes another great rest stop and offers amazing views.
