Itinerary description

Gran Paradiso (4061m) is located within the Gran Paradiso National Park in the Val d'Aosta of Northern Italy. The peak is the 7th highest mountain in the Graian Alps. Being close to the Italian and Swiss borders it is a great place to observe the Mont Blanc Massif in France and the Valais Alps of Switzerland. Gran Paradiso National Park defines an impressive high mountain range furrowed by deep valleys. While the Mont Blanc massif straddles the border between France and Italy, the Gran Paradiso is the only mountain whose summit reaches over 4,000 meters that is entirely within Italian territory. Our Climbs start from Refuge Frédéric Chabod and we descent from the other route that pas to Refuge Victor-Emmanuel II. From the refuge only the 2 km are in a rocky terrain, the other part is climbing in glacier terrain. You have to be very attention because the territory is full of crevasses and you will need Crampons, Ice Axe, Helmet, Rope and all the technical equipment to be safe. After passing the neck of the mountain called Schiena d´Asino you approach the summit that need climbing skills because is exposed. Along this pass are also some bolts where you can fix ropes . From the summit the panorama embraces the Mont Blanc, Matterhorn and with the Alpine arc extending as far as the eye can see. We descent from the other route because the glacier from the high temperature is unstable so is more safe to continue in rocky terrain.
