Itinerary description
This trail follows the T63+T63 X1 walk of the Rother Azores guide (2010 edition) by Roman Martin and can also be downloaded from (also more photos available)

... best web site on tourism on the Azores that I know (unfortunately only in German). Most of the trail is also part of the official GR01 GRA, Grande Rota de Graciosa, waymarked red-white, only on the way back you divert from it on a 2 km stretch.
The hike is mostly on dirt roads and agricultual tracks, plus some old paths that are still well accessible and present no difficulties.
This is a great walk that shows you why Graciosa deserves its name: it is not a spectacular wild and rough nature but the calm and graceful beauty of the landscape, often human-shaped, that captures you.
The trail leads you from near the ocean at Beira Mar/Baia do Filipe up to Caldeirinha, a smaller volcanic crater at 360 m altitude.
You enjoy beautiful scenic views, first over the South coast, and then also over the North-East coast of Graciosa.
You'll also see places of current and historic agricultural use.
Our trail time included a 50 min picnic break near the ancient animal shelter.
