Itinerary description

From Gouverneto Monastery (through Katholiko gorge) to Stavros through an off-trail path.

This is a more challenging approach to a relatively easy path.

First you cross the Katholiko Gorge from Gouverneto Monastery, all the way down to the beautiful rocky "beach".

Then we go left going parallel to the sea, following unclear goat paths enjoying the view, and progressively climbing higher.

We reach the ridge and we keep following it (for maximum view), again without a clear path, however navigating or walking through it is not difficult.

At some point (4.2 km in our recorded trail) we left the ridge to have a look in the path.

One km later we left the path again to start hopping from hill to hill following contour lines
to cross the majority of mountainous bodies of North Stavros till we reach our destination. Again, there was no signs or paths whatsoever, just natural goat trails (easy to walk).

Note that our path took us close to the well known Lera Cave and came down through there, BUT there were some distance (10-20m) of challenging climbing down parts, which you should avoid if you are inexperienced or if it's wet. You can just head back 10min and go down to the gorge on your left and come out the easy way.

Overall hike is of medium difficulty, it's just this one dangerous spot in the end and the absence of trail marks that make it "difficult" for some.

Do not attempt hiking in this area without proper hiking books, the rocks off the path are pointy and unforgiving and will tear the sole of any sneaker shoes.
