This is a great day hike for those who like to get out and enjoy an afternoon of hiking. For “hikers” it’s a 2-hour loop and, for those who need/want to take a leisurely stroll through the forest, it’s a 3 hour stroll that will get your heart pumping. I highly recommend that once you get through the tunnel, that you take a hairpin left to start the loop, that way you’re easy, long down and finish strong by a short, vigorous ending. Overall much easier on the knees that way.
There’s also a nice “opt out” along the way, about a mile in, so if you get going and the weather turns or you suddenly need to get back to your car, you can cut off the trail and get right back if you’re short on time or just need to go. So even if you’re really out of shape, you can enjoy the tunnel and a short, easy portion of the trail and not feel
Like you’re committing to more than you should.
Don’t forget your water!
