Itinerary description
From the entrance of the Yehudiya National Park we set out on a loop trail that was about 10 km (6.5 mi) long and which took us about six hours - generous bathing-breaks included.
From the entrance, we walked roughly 1.5 km (1 mile) to the Sheikh Hussein parking lot, from where we took the blue trail towards the Zavitan Waterfall.
Where the blue trail crossed the red trail, we descended down into the canyon in order to reach the Zavitan stream bed, from where we eventually reached the unbelievably beautiful area of the Zavitan Waterfall and its adjacent pools.
This is where we went bathing in the natural pool, which was filled with clean, fresh cool water.
We continued our journey by hiking up the same path on which we had previously descended into the stream-bed area. Once we reached the plateau, we continued on the red trail along the edge of the canyon until we reached the junction of the red and black trails.
There we took the black trail, once again descending into the canyon via ladders, where the Lower Zavitan Stream was awaiting us with four more natural pools and a waterfall.
After bathing and resting, we continued along the Lower Zavitan Stream towards the Ein Netef spring – which was nothing much to look at. From there, we made a U-turn on the black trail until we met the red trail again, on which we started the not-so-easy ascent of 450 steps that would take us back to the plateau above the canyon.
We continued on the red trail until it met the green trail, from where it was a flat and easy hike back towards the Yehudiya National Park entrance.
