-- Gokyo (4790m)- Fifth Lake (4995m) - Gokyo (4790m)- --
This is the EIGHTH stage of the 13 that correspond to this trek that we do in Gokyo: Lukla, Phakding, Namche Bazar (2), Dole, Machhermo (2), Gokyo (2), Machhermo, Phortse, Tengboche, Namche Bazar and Lukla in our way back. October 2022.
Acclimatization stage before climbing the peak of Gokyo Ri.
ACCESS : Route from Namche to Gokyo.
DESCRIPTION OF THE ROUTE: We leave the village in the direction of the bottom of the valley, right to the Cho Oyu, from which we have a good view.
We follow the path that goes along the moraine of the Ngozumba glacier, although we cannot see it. At this point where we are, the glacier is practically covered with stones and coarse sand that is washed away with the ice that runs below. From time to time, and closer to the village of Gokyo, there are small lakes on this mass and they are the product of the melting that has occurred during the summer.
The path, well marked, goes up between piles of stones and debris from the glacier. In a short time we reach the beautiful Fourth Lake (4870m). Our goal is to reach the Fifth Lake where there is a promontory with a good view of the surroundings and located at approximately 5000m high.
We return to Gokyo village to have lunch and rest and prepare for the next day we want to climb the top of Gokyo Ri very early very early to see the sunrise from the top of the peak which is the time when you can have better views.
