Itinerary description

Parked up at in the NTS Visitor Centre’s carpark. Crossed the road to join the tarmac estate road leading up the Glen towards the Glen Finnan Lodge in glorious sunshine, passed under the now famous railway viaduct (used in the Harry Potter films, but not a patch on Ribblehead viaduct in Yorkshire) to follow the river Finnan upstream on its west side. The estate manager stopped his landy as he passed to ask us to keep to the ridges today and to keep out of the corries as he did not want us to disturb his pregnant deer. We continued up the track, past the Corryhully bothy and went upstream for another 1km on a stalkers path that rises up Sgurr nan Choireachan’s south ridge. Went up the steep sided rocky ridge that rises along the crest of Sgurr a’ Choire Riabhaich to eventually reach Sgurr nan Choireachan’s summit cairn. Good views west out to the isles of Rum, Eigg and Skye. We continued to now traverse east along a rough undulating ridge crossing over the tops of Meall an Tarmachain and Beinn Gharbh with many ups/downs over rocky knolls before finally leading to Sgurr Thuilm’s summit. We descended down the long ridge of Druim Coire a’ Beithe to pickup the path past the bothy to join the easy estate road back to the car.
