Itinerary description

Driving from Leenaun on N59 take R344 road, take the 1st lane (right turn) on this road and park near a small cluster of houses. This area in near the Twelve Pins and provides magnificent views of Kylemore Lough and surrounding peaks. Reach Benbrack and walk along the ridge. Descend point from highest point is signed with stone cairn ...Once Benbaun summit (725m) is reached retrieve your steps to the previous cairn and follow a descent path to the right. At some point views of two small pounds are seen (Loughaun) then descend along the right hand side of the gully. Cross farm field through a gate. Walk along old stone houses and cross the river. There is no bridge so try to find a narrow stoney area for croossing to walk back to the start point on a wide farm path.

Highest point of the route. Trig point at this point which has been damage. There is also a stone made roundy shelter. Retrieve your steps up to the previous cairn to this summit coming from Luggatarriff. The cairn indicates the path for the descent route. This is an eroded path which is made of loose stones so be careful at this point .
