Itinerary description
Part of a large tract of land that includes Walker Woods to the north and Brock Tract to the west (see additional Wikiloc entries). The trails are quite extensive so a map is required, maps are posted at the start point and smaller versions are on sign posts along the way. There is parking at the start point just off Concession Road 6 about 800 meters north of Pickering Uxbridge Townline.
The first kilometer skirts the edge of two gravel pits that were abandoned in the 1990's. The conservation authority purchased the property in 1998 and spent portions of the next ten years rehabilitating the landscape. The forest and trails surrounding are through mix forest, some older growth and a nice stand of birches. Elevation changes were frequent and enjoyable.
We were surprised at the number of people we met on the trail including hikers, dog walkers and numerous cyclists. It was a sunny Sunday but for mid November there was a strong turnout.
Oddly enough, one of the hike's highlights is the view from the rim of the gravel pits.
