One-way walk with great panorama view
The picturesque town of Archanes is under the protection of UNESCO as a typical example of a Cretan inland village and was location of one of King Minos’ summer palaces. Archaeological excavations have revealed that the ancient Minoan settlement lies directly below the recent village.
Today, Archanes is a famous wine-growing region that produces mainly sweet table grapes known as 'rozaki'.
Visit the nearby wine-growing villages of PEZA, VATHIPETRO or a tour of the ANEMOSPILIA olive and grape press.
The mountain area called JOUCHTAS south of the town is 811 meters high and is referred to as the place were Zeus, the mythological king of gods was buried, the mountain actually looks like the profile of a sleeping man from a distant coast. On the peak there are also remains of a Venetian monastery, a small white chapel with an incredible 360’ birds eye view!!
