Itinerary description
Day 4. Wexford Marilyns - Gibbet Hill 315m, Slieveboy 420m and Carrigroe Hill 232m, Wexford.
On many of the peak bagging/outdoor websites I perused for this trip I noted there were very few route descriptions regarding ascents of the lesser known Irish Marilyns. This also applied to the availability of gpx files. I will therefore add relevant information and files that hopefully will provide assistance to future hikers/peakbaggers.
Gibbet Hill 315m, Bunclody, Wexford (Marilyn)
Gibbet Hill is a wind farmed summit just North East of Bunclody in Wexford county.
Parking is at the start point and there is enough room for 7-8 cars. At about mid morning on a Friday I took up the last parking spot.
The trail is on forest tracks all the way to the top. Just follow the gpx track it is simple enough. Saying that I did turn off momentarily just before the summit as there was another track on the right just before the summit one. At the summit there are wind turbines a phone mast and a holy cross. The views were okay but it wasn’t the best of weather days.
Parking: 7-8 spaces at the start point. No restrictions, height bars or fees
Route: Forest track/roadway all the way to the top. Commanding views over the countryside but only okay views on the day.
Statistics: 5.25kms with 214m height gain done in a shade over the hour up and back.
Maps: Digital Outdoor active Harveys Super Walker.
