First stretch of the Ghorepani trek, at the foot of the Annapurna massif, in the Western Region, Pokhara, Nepal.
The Ghorepani Trek is, without a doubt, one of the most famous and best-adapted trekking that can be done in Nepal. It is also, most likely, the one with the best views and panoramic views of the colossal mountains through which it runs, where the entire Annapurna massif, Manaslu and Dhaulagiri, 8,000 all of them, or the impenetrable Machhapuchhre stand out.
This is a very well-equipped trek, as we will find places where we can eat and sleep during all the trekking, since there is at least one lodge in all the villages. During the low season and when winter is more pronounced, it may be the case that some peripheral sections of the trek or some lodges are closed, but we can always obtain information on alternative routes asking the tenants.
The path is well signposted and easy to follow, with signs on the breaks and landmarks in some sections along the route, sometimes white and red, sometimes white and blue. The paths are not particularly technical, but when there is an unevenness, we can find stone steps, which can be very slippery (and heavy), and high levels, the presence of snow can also hinder walking.
This track uploaded here is the first part of the route, divided into 3 parts for failures in GPS tracking, the first two days of a total of 5.
We arrived at Konde by taxi from Pokhara (2,000 npr, approx. € 20), prior to the Annapurna Conservation Area office, from where we will get the two necessary permits (4,000 npr, € 40 approx in total) to do the trekk In our case, we start walking in the afternoon, and the goal is to reach Pothana, to spend the night there. The road begins rising steeply for an hour, with steps to agunate the terrain and with several places where you can rest, indicated by a few 'banks' of special stone for the carriers. Once we reach Australian Camp, there is only one hour of descent to Pothana. It is a beautiful little village with spectacular views of the Annapurna, especially if you climb to the 'Vew Point'. In fact, it is very recommendable to take dora and see the sunrise, as on a clear day, you can see the Manaslu, apart from the spectacular Machhapuchhare, the Hiunchuli and the Annapurnes.
Tomka and Landruk follow the march tomorrow morning. The first kilometers of the road are flat, for having to climb a heavy 'pickle' to Deurali (turnoff), where we separate from the Mardi Trek, which leads to the Base Camp of the Annapurna. Here we change the slope, and go down to the river, a path that is very steep and with many steps. Because it is the coara obaga of the mountain and it rained, the path and the steps are very slippery, and the walk is slower and more heavy.
After this descent, we reach a track that will continue for a few kilometers, in descending plains, and we will pass plazas villages of Tolka and Landruk, where the agricultural activity and the tourist lodges predominate. Once we pass Landruk, we find a turnoff where we continue straight ahead, direction Chomrong. Here we take the narrow road, which advances between mill and buffalo fields, until you get off to the river, prior to a beautiful waterfall.
Once we reach the river, we continue a couple of kilometers further along a flat path to reach New Bridge, where we stop for lunch at the small lodge (see some noodles and a 'strong' black coffe, which is not missing!), Located in a wonderful place!
We decide that today we will end it in Jhinu Danda, known for its thermal baths. This means that, once the river is crossed through the Old Bridge (attention, we can also cross the river through the New Bridge, but the road is worse and a little further back), it would strike us to make a steep climb, one to descent, and another strong rise. After this first climb and when the descent begins, we find that a landslide has been taken halfway up and the small bridge that crossed another river. After some doubts, we find a provisional path and an alternative bridge, just before beginning the last climb of the day, a considerable stretch to reach Jhinu Danda.
Before going to sleep, however, we go down to the thermal baths next to the river, a very relaxing wonder!
