Gertrude Saddle + Barrier Knob (New Zealand)

Lo primero pedir perdón por el pésimo track, tuve un problema con los permisos del móvil y solo tomaba la posición cuando lo desbloqueaba. Aún así prefiero subirla ya que no encontré ningún track similar y creo que puede ayudar, intentaré compensarlo con la descripción. La ruta está grabada solo la bajada por lo que los valores reales serían algo como:

Distancia 13 km
Desnivel acumulado 1100 m
Altura máxima 1879 m
Dificultad moderada hasta el collado y después algo más difícil. Depende mucho del tiempo
Tardé 5:30 pero había visto estimaciones de 7:30

La primera parte de la ruta no tiene pérdida, llegar hasta Gertrude Saddle. Hay un aparcamiento al inicio y un camino marcado de señales naranjas bastante fácil de seguir. El tramo más empinado junto a la cascada puede resbalar bastante si está mojado, es una ruta que precisa de un tiempo seco y despejado.

Una vez en el collado, sale un camino hacia la derecha, primero por tierra y más adelante directamente en la roca. Aquí las marcas naranjas dan paso a los hitos y es más fácil extraviarse si hay niebla (algo muy común en esta zona). La roca es bastante noble y se puede improvisar un poco el camino, no hay pasos expuestos pero mucho cuidado si está mojado.

Por lo que yo vi llegado a un punto hay dos opciones con hitos, seguir bastante directo hacia el pico (por donde subí) o hacer un pequeño rodeo al sur (por donde bajé y va el track). He dejado una imagen con la representación en mapa y un waypoint del track marca el hito donde creo que se divide.

En cualquier caso, llegando a la cima no se debe acometer directamente por la verticalidad y la presencia de hielo, conviene rodearla por el sur y ya crestear. Una vez en la cresta se puede ir en ambos sentidos sin problema, grandes vistas hacia todos los lados y se ve continuidad hasta el Barrier Peak (creo que para ello ya convienen cuerdas).

First of all, sorry for the awful track, I had a problem with the permissions and the mo ile was only recording the position while being unlock, I will try to compensate with the description. Anyway, as I haven't seen any similar track I wanted to upload it in case it might help someone. Only the coming down was recorded, real values might be:

Distance 13 km
Total altitude 1100 m
Max altitude 1879 m
Difficulty moderate until the saddle, then a bit more difficult, depends a lot on the weather conditions
It took me 5:30 hours but I saw estimations around 7:30

From the parking to the saddle inly need to follow the orange marks, the difficulty along the track might come if it's wet (quite easy in this area) or due to lack of visibility that makes difficult to follow the milestones from the saddle to the top.

From the saddle to the right there is a small trail through the dirt first and then directly in the rock. It is quite easy to climb.

I saw two possibilities following the milestones shown in the map picture. One goes straight to the top (what I used to go up), and one doing a little curve. I marked as waypoint the milestone where I think the intersection was.

In any case, reaching the top part you should do a little round from the south to avoid the most vertical and sandy part plus a likely ramp of ice. Once in the ridge is easy to move and the 360 views are amazing
