THE HUNDRED THOUSAND SONGS OF MILAREPA
To the man who is disgusted with this world,
Is presented the breastbone, free from acts and craving.
To the one who practices the main teaching of "Bon,"
The four limbs, indispensible to life, are served.
To the physician, the nourishing Bodhi-Mind,
The backbone of this life and that beyond, is offered.
To all followers who are faithful and sincere
The heart, the essence of instruction, is presented.
To the steadfast one who ne'er forsakes the Path of
Virtue,
Is given the liver- Cause-and-Effect that never fails.
To the industrious follower, are presented
The kidneys, Skill and Wisdom.
To beginners in the Dharma are presented
The feet, the well-designed Expedient Truths.
To the yogi, who always heeds his meditation practice,
Is given the herdsman's meat, the essential
Pith-Instruction.
This is the seventh chapter of my song,
The Chapter that invites Superior Beings to a Feast.
Such was the feast that Milarepa served,
And then, the worthy guests went home.
Though the universal foundation [Alaya] of all men
is one,
Their conduct and dispositions vary greatly.
Therefore, to arrogant and pretentious monks,
Is given the penis that e'er clings to form.
To the teacher who follows nought but words,
The skinless and decayed part of the legs is s
To proud, pompous, and evil priests
The meatless nape is offered.
To proud black magicians, who practice sorcery,
The neck grease, maker of black-bitterness, is given.
To bigoted and sectarian monks
Is given the spinal marrow of disputation.
To greedy and contemptible solicitors,
The barren nose-tip of vanity is given.
To the yogi who strolls about the village,
The rumor-hungry ears are presented.
To disciples of small faith but with gross heresies,
The ill-rewarding spleen is served.
To the person who upsets and subverts the Brotherhood,
The bitter gall is given.
To the "grand" teachers, who have not realized
Mind-Essence,
The midriff, the ostentatious but vain Mal)<;lala, is
offered.
To the yogi whose meditation practice is merely of
the mouth,
The lung, so tasteless yet so large in size, is
served.
To the yogi who knows little but boasts much,
The skin of the stomach is presented.
To town-dwellers, "Bon" monks who eat up life,
The gullet, which fosters lust and hate, is given.
To fraudulent forecasters who throw lots,
The water-holding bladders are presented.
To the presumptuous man who claims there is no Karma,
Is served the tail, symbol of erroneous view
