Itinerary description
Gegharot waterfall ( Գեղարոտի ջրվեժ ) is the highest located spectacular waterfall in Armenia. It's situated at 3000 m above sea level running down from the height of 17 m.
What makes this place more fascinating, that it's located in Aragats mountain slopes and when you get there through Gegharot gorge you have fantastic view of mount Aragats ( Արագած լեռ ).
What you need to know about this trail?
--- The trail starts from Aragats village ( Արագած գյուղ).
--- 95 % of the trail can be reached by jeep. That part of the trail is a dirty road so it depends on your preferences* whether you want to hike it or not**.
* The season factor plays a big role here, as the trail is marvelous in June and July months, when it's green and covered with flowers.
** BTW If you want to get there by vehicle, write to me and I'll pass a reliable driver contact from the village
--- This is only a one-way trail, so after getting Gegharot waterfall you either continue your route to Aragats peaks or get back the same trail.
--- SEASON for this trail starts from mid June till late October (Basically from November till June the trail is snow-blocked and the waterfall is frozen in winter ). The most beautiful month here is July.
--- Even if you get to the waterfall in the middle of summer, the water is still cold. Don't forget to take warm clothes . And sunscreen is another must here, as you can easily get sunburn at the altitude of 3000 m in Armenia.
--- ATTENTION: Be careful while getting under the waterfall, there are rocks above which tend to fall from time to time.
