Itinerary description
Day 4 of our walk to Nidaros from Berkåk along the Gudbrandsdalsleden.
The day begins with a climb along ever rougher dirt roads and then heads into the forest. It was fairly muddy when we walked through. The trail continues through farmland and along dirt roads. After passing through a cluster of houses, it enters a heath with patches of forest which is extremely wet and quite long. Later it dried up but then there were several more wet patches. My son and I wore sandals and were glad to have done so.
The parish house had one big room with cots for pilgrims. I found it more comfortable to put the mattress on the floor. It was quite cool; no heating. The kitchen was well stocked and the showers and bathroom decent. I didn’t sleep well — needed a pillow — but it was classic pilgrim accommodation, though certainly nothing compared to Gumdal, which was only slightly more expensive.
There’s a supermarket just 1 minute from the parish house.
