Itinerary description

Gavarnie la Pimene. This is a long but fairly simple and clearly marked day walk to a summit that looks unassuming from below but offers a superb vista over the cirque de Gavarnie and beyond. Allow 7hrs without pauses and expect a big it generally fairly moderate climb. The last 30m to actual summit involve a bit of a scramble over the rocks and there's a very short exposed section. Many ppl actually stop just a minute below the true summit so as to avoid this scramble and the view is essentially the same. Spending the night at the refuge d'espugette is a very good idea so as to either be able to get to the summit earlier so sun is shining more into the cirque rather than backlighting it and so as to make for two shorter days.
