Itinerary description

Time to speed things up a bit so I had a bit of a blitz today doing four Marilyns in the same area in the middle of the Lleyn Peninsula in one day. Starting at 9am I was done and in my campsite by 3pm. The Marilyns were Mynydd Rhiw, Carneddol, Carn Fadryn and Garn Boduan. A bit of a mixed bag of scenic walks, Iron Age forts and just a lump on a farmer’s back yard really. There will be a brief description on each Marilyn. As they are short please just follow the gpx track as they are easy enough. All in all though a total of 12km and 700 meters of height gain achieved in a total of 3hrs 5mins of hiking in this beautiful part of Wales.

Mynydd Rhiw - Parking at the small Plas Rhiw National Trust car park which was closed due to Covid so today there was room. Follow the road steeply uphill until you get to the marked trail heading onto the hills. Follow the gpx trail. Basically a gentle moorland walk with nice coastal views, easy walking with a trig pointed summit.
Stats: 4km, 210m height gain, 1hr.

Carneddol - At the start point is a rough patch of land big enough for a car. This Marilyn is really in a field. Simply hop over the gate, go straight uphill over a wall at the top and there is rocky lump. Easy enough. Nothing special with this one.
Stats: 1km, 90m height gain, 20mins

Carn Fadryn - At the start point in Garnfadryn is a long lay-by by the church. It can take about 10-12 vehicles. Even so there was only two spots left today. It is a popular local walk. For the hike, walk North along an access road that runs alongside the church. Don’t turn off anywhere until you get onto the hill. Follow the path right or East and follow the a few cairns that mark the trail. All easy enough with a trig pointed summit with beautiful views of the whole Lleyn Peninsula.
Stats: 2.5km, 200m height gain, 45mins.

Garn Boduan - There is a small forestry cutting at the start point on the B4354. I would have said big enough for three cars but there was five in there when I came back down including my Mercedes MWB. Anyway, there is a small forestry barrier in front of you. Simply follow the forest track in a big loop until you see a small information board on Boduan where you then go on a footpath. The path is reasonably clear all the way to the very broad rocky top where there is a precarious stone pile on one side and a cairn/shelter on the other. Boduan is an interesting Iron Age fort.
Stats: 3.75km, 200m height gain, 1hr.
