Itinerary description
Garden of the gods trails.
Nice trails and what a surprise to see a bear today!
Geology is dominated by red muddy sandstones and conglomerates of the Fountain Formation. They are of late Palaeozoic age: Pennsylvanian to Permian (~300Ma to 250Ma) . Probably represent deposition as alluvial fans capable of carrying large cobbles and boulders in fluidised debris flows.
