Itinerary description
Hike through the Fuhrtsbach valley especially nice for the wild daffodils (Narzissen) which blossom in large numbers from late March to mid-May (depending on the weather). The hike starts on the hills above the valley in Alzen, descends into the valley with woods and pasture, and fields with daffodils, and ascends back to the start. There are no places to eat or drink something during the walk. The daffodils can attract a lot of people: an early visit is recommended. There is a large parking at the start. Large part of the hike is on easy to walk larger forest or field roads, part is on a smaller path with a bit more mud and tree roots. I also once did a longer hike including the Fuhrtsbach valley, but also the Perlenbach valley and Bieley: see https://nl.wikiloc.com/routes-wandelen/perlenbach-valley-and-wild-daffodils-narzissen-30-km-36641551/.
From the parking you take an unpaved field road towards the valley and the forest edge. The path descends through the forest towards the Fuhrtsbach and you follow a smaller path west along the north side of the valley. You have occasional glimpses of meadows and groups of daffodils. The path goes through a wet area close to the Fuhrtsbach and crosses a smaller stream (Bauernsief). You then cross the Fuhrtsbach and follow the broad forest track Fuhrtsbachweg back east. You pass by meadows at Bürsief and some fields with daffodils. After passing a crossing of forest roads you approach a large meadow with a lot of daffodils. The forest track continues east and after passing through more forest you end up with two fields full of daffodils, and a bench to enjoy the view. Just before the track ends up with the Heistertweg you take a less travelled road through forest slightly uphill to the Heistertweg. You then descend along the Heistertweg back to the Fuhrtsbach and cross it. Directly right is another field densely packed with daffodils, but after a short look you continue on the forest road now named Eppertsweg uphill out of the valley to fields dotted with wind mills. You take another field road through the valley of a minor stream and then follow this field road with wider views, and beech hedges characteristic of this area, back to the starting point.
