Itinerary description
Take the first turn off sign posted Monda / Guaro (A7100). At the Km16 sign take the first sharp left, onto calle Calvario and park near the top.
The walk starts from here at the Calvary and the old Moorish Threshing floor, with views of Monda castle in the distance. We pass through a new urbanisation on to Camino Alpujata, (first incline).
At the first junction we will take the right path (pavement and second incline) up to the Hermitage San Roque and Monda’s picnic park. From here we go around Monda’s sports stadium and down on to the PRA 276. We then walk parallel to the Alpujata River going through olive and almond groves, and Aleppo pines in the distant mountains, until we get to the Fountain – Fuente de los Morales for a break and a well earned drink of spring water from the fountain of youth!
Here it would be worthwhile to take a few good moments to appreciate the tranquillity and the sounds of nature, and the rippling of the water.
Heading back we avoid going back up to the Hermitage and stay on the bottom track.
