Itinerary description
This trail is part two of a 3-days hike from Tatev to Kapan which is based on a suggestion from Armen Kazaryan of ARK Armenia, Kapan (http://www.arkarmenia.com/). The trail is part of the Ark Bridge Project.
For this section of the trail, which leads to the village of Arajadzor, we took a route different from the original suggestion which follows the road H-45. My alternate route led through the mountaints via mount Adzimamed-yurt (2034 m). I had prepared it solely with information from Openstreetmaps, cross-checks with satellite images from Google Maps. Both proved quite reliable for Armenia.
In principle, this trail should offer great views south over the mountains of Kapan. Unfortunately, we could not see much of them since we walked in clouds. Moreover, the paths uphill were extraordinarily muddy due to the rain and the frequent usage by cows. Besides of this, the trail is not technically difficult. Orientation might be challenge, since detailed topographic maps are not available. In consequence, I would recommend this trail in only case of good weather, and if you are equipped with a GPS. Otherwise better stick to the road.
At Arajadzor, we stayed the night at the “Dacha” of Armen Kazaryan which he just was reconstructing in order to provide accommodation for travelers - like us. Thanks for the hospitality.
