Itinerary description

A lovely stroll along the Daugava River in the Latvian countryside. Starting at a tiny train station in a remote area in Alotene, you proceed on foot along paths through meadows, woods, and rural roads. There are numerous old oaks, rustic wooden houses, and vast open spaces. Additionally, the Stukmai Manor and perhaps one of the most fabled Peter's Stones are reached by the trail. Beautiful views of the Daugava River as well.

Notes of caution: From March to October, be on the lookout for ticks, steer clear of tall grass, and wear long pants and tick repellent. Avoid the trek on rainy days as well because you will pass through some marshy areas that are easily inundated by rain.

You can easily reach the starting point of the trail by hopping on train to Daugavpils, Zilupe or Krustpils from Riga. Just remember to drop off at the tiny Alotene train station, and make sure that the train stops there, because not all trains do. There is a small toilet near the station as well. PM me for further info!
