Itinerary description
TO QUOTE GUY HUNTER WATTS……”This mountain trail, known to locals as El Camino Liman is without question one of Andalusia’s most spectacular walks. Even if you’re used to walking in the Alps or the Andes, this walk will put a bounce in your boots. This is the Big Daddy of the walks in and around Competa and Frigliana”.
Starting in Frigliana we drop down steeply into the amazing Rio Higueron gorge. After walking along the river for approximately half an hour we ascend steeply up the eastern side of the gorge to the top of the first pass.
This is the first of the three passes walked, the terrain on the route will vary almost every ½ hour; this will include broad but deeply eroded tracks, a river crossing by stepping stones, places with the shale and loose stones under foot and if that’s not enough narrow paths which zigzags steeply up and down.
Lunch will be beside the Rio Chillar in the enclosed valley.
One more ascent after lunch and this again is single track.
The final descent to Nerja is an easy 3km down a wide gravel track; we can celebrate the achievement in a bar at the end of this track.

Thanks for the route map! We took the first half to the Rio Chillar and the same way back to Frigiliana. Enough walk for a one day 😅
