Itinerary description
Beautiful circuit with a bit of everything! There is an option to make a detour up to the Cruz Pinto at the top of the ascent out of the river gorge. This would add about 2k to the marked route. We returned by following the acequia along the valley bottom which meant an occasional scramble but you may prefer just to follow the river bed lower down. (The river was in flood when we did the walk)
Keep your eyes open for ibex on the slopes of the gorge - we saw a family of four near the end.

Okay - My Bad!
Having walked the Rio Chillar before a group of us (age range 62 - 69!) arranged to repeat what had been a lovely experience.
As we had to come a long way we arranged overnight accommodation etc.
Imagine our disappointment when we found out it was closed due to covid restrictions.
I therefore looked to see if I could find an alternate walk for us to enjoy.
Bearing in mind we walked pretty regularly and this walk showing as 3.6 miles I thought it was well within our capability. Even with the elevation profile.
I am afraid I was duped by the description as being marked "MODERATE" as I thought this refered to 'Effort' rather than "Technical Difficulty" !!! - So yes, it wasn't technically challenging but I'm afraid some of the group found it more than a little challenging, effort wise!!!
All that said - we did finish it, (used the short cut) we really enjoyed the magical panoramas, we loved the peace and tranquility (so far removed from the hubbub of Nerja) and enjoyed the flora and fauna this wet and cool spring/early summer has given us.
Some of our party (!) did the detour up to "La Cruz de Pinto", (Ah, that explains the 'Blue Arrow' to lead us up from the rambla!) placed by a thankful sailor saved from a storm in 1643! It actually only adds 1.2 Km to the total and is well worth it for the views over the coast and surrounding area. (Don't forget to look inside the little cage in the cross!
So, in summary:-
Well worth doing, in my opinion, a good standard of fitness required, and don't forget to bring plenty of water, especially as the temperatures creep up, (and maybe an energy bar or two.)
Thanks Dave for putting this up. We look forward to visiting again.

Not super easy to navigate at all times but fun hike for both 2 legged and 4 legged and the scenery…. Wow! Loved it!
