The Via Francigena starts next to the south portico of Canterbury Cathedral where the stone indicating the kilometer zero of the itinerary is placed. The pilgrim's credentials are available at the Information Center inside the walls of the Cathedral.

Leaving the Cathedral through the Christchurch gate, turn left and continue towards Burgate; continue along Church Street and Longport along the Abbey of Sant'Agostino.

After passing the North Holmes Road and the Church of San Martino, turn right at Via Pilgrim's Way following the signs for the "North Downs Way" itinerary.

The path leading to Dover is approximately 30km long and takes an average of seven to eight hours on foot.
The route allows you to easily return to Canterbury by train using the stations of Bekesbourne, Adisham, Aylesham, Sherpherdswell and Dover Priory.

Information provided by Canterbury City Council.
