Itinerary description

This is a stunning scenic walk along an ancient schist trail.

Starting at the picturesque river beach of Foz d'Egua, we amble up the little stone bridges to discover the path that leads all the way to Piodao. This is easy going but a continuous gentle hill upwards.

After resting and recharging in this lovely town you can easily spend time enjoying it's ambience or continue your walk to the other side of the valley. Firstly down towards the river, and then up the other side until you go along the valley next to a lavada for a time, enjoying the views from to other side of the valley.

You come onto the 'main' road (very little traffic) for about 100m before returning to the path and continuing on a steep down hill track which is slighly less confortable under foot; many loose stones and step sections which would benefit from walking poles in places.

You return to the River Beach where you can cool down if you wish; there is even a bar close by for lunch (may not be open out of peak season).

Todays walk involved a lot of photographs and really needs a relaxed attitude to take in the breathtaking views. We stopped in Piodao for a coffee and a nata, but could easily have spent more time there exploring the ancient streets and buildings. Although this walk could be done in 2 hours I highly recommend you allow a full morning or afternoon to get the most out of this experience.
