Itinerary description

Fantastic longer day walk. Follow the Fox River up to the impressive Ballroom Rock Shelter. About a 12km return journey - 2.5 hours each way
Leave your vehicle at the Fox River Bridge car park and follow the marked track (orange triangles) along the riverbank for approximately 1.5 km to where it meets the river bed, follow the river bed for another 600 or so meters until the sign which indicates a fork in the track - left to the Fox Caves and Right to the Ballroom.
This is where you will first have to cross the Fox River. When the river is low it is an easy crossing - however it should not be attempted if the river is running high or is dirty A good rule is that if you cant see the bottom of this usually crystal clear river its dirty and shouldn't be crossed.
Cross diagonally upstream to the orange marker on the opposite bank and then proceed along the track another 2.5km (approx) to the junction of the Ballroom track (left) and the Inland Pack Track (right). Go left and at a point approx 200m down stream of the junction with Dilemma Creek the track again joins the river bed. From here on there are lots more river crossings as you carry on another 1km to the massive Rock Shelter.
The river views on the way upstream are fantastic and the rock shelter a great place to have your lunch and boil a billy.
Essentials for this trip are good footwear - your feet are going to be wet all day. Also take a coat and a warm layer as the weather on the West Coast can change rapidly.
Note - this track was hand drawn so will not follow the actual track exactly and rivers in this area can change their location within the riverbed daily so you will have to pick your own crossing points - look for footprints where others have crossed as a guide and remember river crossings are not to be taken lightly, unfortunately many people have underestimated the power of river water to their cost.
