Itinerary description

Vertrek: Op de CV721 richting Vall de Laguar net voorbij de afslag naar Fontilles is een kerkhof met ruime parking.
De tijd van 7 uur is inclusief bezoek aan het infocentrum van Fontilles en een lunch in Orba.
De wandeling vertrekt richting sanatorium Fontilles, dit was honderd jaar geleden het grootste opvang en verzorgingscentrum voor melaatsen uit de streek.
Om te voorkomen dat de bewoners uit de omgeving besmet werden staat er rond gans het domein een hoge muur.
Bezoek zeker het museum met de historische tijdlijn, veel fotos en labomateriaal. De stichting Fontilles is nog steeds actief over de ganse wereld voor opvang en verzorging van melaatsen.
Na het culturele bezoekje daal je eerst af om tussen Murla en Orba in de Castellet de Orba te beklimmen, met prachtige zichten over de vallei van Orba en de Vall de Pop.
Na de afdaling van de Castellet is het tijd om in Orba een terrasje te doen.
Vervolg de weg eerst door appelsienplantages, dan een rivierbedding, vie een ruine terug afdalen naar de Baranc do Inferno. Hier is de Presa de Isbert het volgende doel. Een stuwdam die er nooit is in geslaagd om water tegen te houden. Maar wel een spectaculair plekje op een zeer smalle plek tussen twee steile wanden. Terug uit de rivier klimmen en dan door een donkere tunnel (vergeet geen zaklamp). Je komt nog langs de Fonte de Isbert met helder water. Tot slot terug richting Fontilles om zo terug bij de parking uit te komen.

Fontilles

History Fontilles was founded in 1902 by a lawyer Don Joaquín Ballester and a Jesuit priest, Father Carlos Ferris, in order to offer an improved quality of life and treatment to a great number of leprosy patients in the Alicante and Valencia region. A hospital, the Fontilles Colony Sanatorium - San Francisco de Borja, on the border of the Alicante and Valencia provinces, was opened in 1909, with the aim of performing a triple function: medical treatment, research and teaching. Since then adjusting to new needs in the fight against leprosy has been a first priority. This includes running annual courses for doctors, nurses and personnel working on anti-leprosy projects, and producing the only scientific leprosy journal in Spanish - Revista de Leprología Fontilles. Fontilles has also been supporting or running an increasing number of international projects.

Castel de Orba

Vervallen burcht boven op een heuvel. Van de burcht blijven slechts enkele muurfragmenten over maar het uitzicht is zeker de moeite waard.

ORBA

Orba is een gemeente in de Spaanse provincie Alicante in de regio Valencia met een oppervlakte van 18 km². In 2007 telde Orba 2503 inwoners.
