Itinerary description
After having hiked the perfectly marked trail from Porto Brandão to Fonte da Telha, I'm exploring the next stage of the 'Caminho do Atlântico' (GR11-E9). I start where I left the route on the previous hike; on the top of the little road going down to the beach of Fonte da Telha.
The first part of the hike through the dunes is marked until you reach the entrance of the Estação Ibéria Nato. Be aware of the pack of semi-wild dogs that seem to live here. (They will not harm you, but can definitely scare you!). You will enter the gate of Apostiça and walk this easy forest trail (with loads of beautiful flowers when I was there in the beginning of May) straight until you reach the Lagoa de Albufeira. The north side of the Lagoa is quiet and peaceful with just some traces (litter, unfortunately) of local fishermen.
While I've never been to the Lagoa de Albufeira before, I was curious to see the other side of the Lagoa and walked all the way around it. When you reach the very top of the Lagoa and exit Apostiça, unfortunately the route will take you along the main road for quite a while. But if you - like me - would like to make the extra kilometres and walk to the village of Lagoa de Albufeira, I don't think there are many other options.
Alternatively, you can hike to the north side of Lagoa de Albufeira and simply hike all the way back to Fonte da Telha along the beach! That's probably what I will do the next time.
Enjoy your hike! <3
