Itinerary description

This is an easy, short circular walk that first visits four characteristic volcanic lakes in the highland of Flores, before leading you to an uncommon viewpoint over the basin of Fajãzinha, next to a stream that eventually ends in one of the waterfalls that feed Poço das Patas. There are no accentuated ups or downs. A bit less than half of the walk (till km 2.9) is on foodpaths which may be muddy after rain, then follows a stretch on a gravel road, before you divert along a field track to reach a creek that feeds the waterfall. The last km is on the somewhat busy regional road that connects Santa Cruz das Flores to the west coast.
The walk starts at the parking space next to the Lagoa Negra viewpoint. Until km 2.9 you follow the red-yellow signposted walking trail of PR03 FLO, which leads you to visit the 4 volcanic lakes of Lagoa Preta, Lagoa Comprida, Lagoa Seca, and Lagoa Branca. Description of that part can be found under

If you continue around one hundred meters through the pastures above the left bank of the stream, you reach a point from which you have a great view down to the basin of Fajãzinha. Then walk the same way back until reaching the forest road to Morro Alto, from which you diverted.
