Itinerary description
The walk starts at the parking space next to the Lagoa Negra viewpoint. Until km 2.9 you follow the red-yellow signposted walking trail of PR03 FLO, which leads you to visit the 4 volcanic lakes of Lagoa Preta, Lagoa Comprida, Lagoa Seca, and Lagoa Branca. Waypoints
Viewpoint Lagoa Negra
The starting point of the walk: the viewpoint over Lagoa Negra, the "black lake", also called Caldeira funda, the "deep crater lake".
Viewpoint Lagoa Comprida 1
Before you continue on the actual trail which leads downhill towards the road, climb up some stairs to venture this viewpoint over Lagoa Comprida, the "long lake".
Viewpoint Lagoa Comprida 3
3rd viewpoint over Lagoa Comprida
Viewpoint Caldeira Seca
The next viewpoint on the trail is over Caldeira Seca, the "dry crater lake". It really was dry when we visited it.
Viewpoint Lagoa Branca 1
The last crater lake to be visited is Lagoa Branca, the "white lake", which also deserves its name.
Viewpoint Lagoa Branca 2
Bird watching shelter
A shelter which allows you to watch the birdlife near Lagoa Branca (if you have the patience to do that).
Caminho Florestal do Morro Alto
Here you leave the signposted PR03 trail and turn left downhill on the gravel road Caminho Florestal do Morro Alto.
Diversion to viewpoint over Fajãzinha
Here you divert from the forest road to the right on a field track, that after 500 m ends at a stream with a weir.
Stream above Poço das Patas
This is the stream that eventually feeds one of the waterfalls above Poço das Patas. From here you have already a view over the ridge above Fajãzinha with Miradouro do Portal.
Viewpoint over Fajãzinha
If you continue around one hundred meters through the pastures above the left bank of the stream, you reach a point from which you have a great view down to the basin of Fajãzinha. Then walk the same way back until reaching the forest road to Morro Alto, from which you diverted.
