Itinerary description
Feira
Long day. I was staying off the trail a few miles. I was able to find gps trail data to get me back on the Way. I had a fun time chatting with a couple of New Zealand girls, one was named Jen. We had a good laugh about my mess ups so far. We tried singing some Elvis songs. They laughed at my accent as I did theirs. At least I am a better Elvis impersonator than he was an actor and he was the King.
I was so tired of walking that I wanted to run. I had run a lot on the Frances route, but I am being safe to finish Comrades in South Africa in a couple of weeks and then try to qualify for Boston in late July. I did some test running and felt good energy but made my feet tender.
Being so tired of walking I would start stopping at every cafe. I was taking siestas at shady spots beside the road. Fortunately there aren’t many ants or other insects when I would recline. I saw one friendly (dead) snake, but was not worried wading through marshy areas.
I was so tired of walking today I stopped at a place and asked for a hamburger. He said no but started cooking something in a frying pan. I figured it must be for me. Yes indeed it was a very seasoned sausage that made me sweat which was not common so far. It was mixed with small beef chunks. Hopefully I have photos.
Next up. I saw a barbershop. I did not need a haircut, but these one mile stops were keeping me going. The dreaded question of haircut type came up. All I could communicate was 2 by 4. I should have said 6 by 8. These guys are smart by cutting first and washing last. I will only know how bad the haircut is when I get back home. I also stopped at a park with concessions and some electronic music for a bit. I did not see any other pilgrims but hung out for an hour or so before the trek to my reserved hotel.
I talked to friends in San Diego who are still running strong. Go Jackie.
