Itinerary description

This hike took place at Fahnestock State Park near Cold Spring, NY. The hike starts off by taking the AT ( Appalachian trail ) trail that is north of Rte 301 and near Canopus Lake.
Approximately 150ft, the Fahnestock trail ( denoted by a blue blaze ) will intersect with the AT, and at that spot make a right onto the Fahnestock trail. Follow the Fahnestock trail until it intersects with the Charcoal Burner trail ( denoted by a red blaze ).
At the intersection, make a right onto the Charcoal burner. Both Fahnestock and Charcoal burner will travel together for a short while, but continue taking Charcoal trail as turns to the right. About 1.25 miles from the intersection, there will be a small spot on the Charcoal Burner where a view point can see NYC on a good day.
After short while the Charcoal Burner trail will end and the start of the Wiccopee trail ( which is also symbolized by a blue blaze ). The hike continues on the Wiccopee trail and as the hike continues there will be some small gullies to cross and a lot ferns. Approximately .9 miles, the Wiccopee trail intersects with the Clove Creek trail. ( which is denoted by a while blaze ) The Clove Creek trail is a new trail that was established in Fahnestock, it was original an unmark road. For 1.42 miles take the Clove Creek path to the Fahnestock trail. Clove Creek path is a bit overgrown but manageable.
Once at the Fahnestock trail ( blue blaze ), take it to were it intersects with the Perkins ( Yellow Blaze) at .78 miles.
Continue take the Perkins trail -- be careful since the Perkins trail will go near private property -- for 1.9 miles where the trail goes through the fields of the farms. Stay on the trails. Approximately 2000 ft, the road that Perkin trail is on goes down to the farm; DO NOT GO DOWN TO THE FARM. The trail at the point turns right and continues where there will be a riding school and turns left. . Continue on the Perkins trail until it intersects with the Charcoal Burner trail. Make a left on the Charcoal Burner to the Fahnestock where it take you back to the AT trail. Once at the AT trail, take it all back to Rte 301 where the car is parked.
