IMPORTANT: The last part of the route was not properly recorded. In any case, the roads are very marked and it is impossible to get lost.
The most difficult stage of the transfagaras runs along ridges that unite the successive peaks of this massif. The most complicated part is the descent to the hill from where you climb to Pico Negoiu. Here we find several exposed steps, that if equipped with chains, to take into account a very vertical descent of about 4 meters where there are no shelves for the feet. The climb from the hill also has climbing steps but everything is much easier now. We arrive at the beautiful Caltun refuge and from here we still have a couple of mountains to climb before reaching Balea.
