Itinerary description
I went with Toppfarar and Glacier Guides to the top of Eyjafjallajökull (glacier and volcano) on 5 April 2012. The snowline was in just over 600 m and snow conditions on the glacier were good for hiking without crampons most of the way to the top. Crampons were only needed for the last 100 - 150 m. The group was devided into 4 lines and they were used from an altitude of 800 m. The weather was rather warm and calm but on the clacier it started raining and then it rained constantly with wind blowing from the West all the way to the top and back down. There was also fog with very low visibility and nothing to see from the top.
