First stage of the trek to the Annapurna sanctuary.
We start at 10 in the morning from Nayapul, at the edge of the road where the buses stop. So far we have arrived in a private minibus from Pokhara after an hour of travel on a road in fairly good condition. It can also be accessed by public bus from Pokhara station.
The route begins following the right bank of the Modi River, which is crossed by a bridge 1.7 km from where the minibus left us.
There is a path that runs parallel to the river but it is cut off at some point by landslides and there is no choice but to do half the route on an unpaved road.
This road intersects with the original road in Kimche, at an altitude of 1,550 m, when we have been walking for just over 7 km, where there is a bar/chiringuito where we stop to eat. We have started at an elevation of 1060 and we have saved a drop of almost 500 m.
After lunch we finally leave the road and take the path that climbs the slope in front of the bar. The road runs through an idyllic landscape in which the terraces of the crops on the slope draw stripes of that color between green and yellow that rice has when it is ready for harvest.
We still have another 500 m to save to reach Ghandruk, which will be the end of our first stage, and which will cost us more after a pause that is too long and a stomach that is too full.
In Ghandruk we stayed in a picturesque and cute little hotel, the Trekkers Inn.
