Itinerary description
⇐ Enlace a la etapa anterior: ESTADOS UNIDOS - NEW YORK. LONG PATH - Etapa 5.2 - Desde Call Hollow Road hasta el Big Hill Shelter y Lake Skannatati
⇒ Enlace a la etapa siguiente: ESTADOS UNIDOS - NEW YORK.
Extending 356 miles from Fort Lee Historical Park in New Jersey to John Boyd Thacher State Park near Albany in New York, the Long Path is a thread connecting many of New York's parks, preserves, and state forest lands. After crossing into Rockland County, New York, the LP turns away from the Hudson River between Piermont and Upper Nyack, but then continues to follow the Palisades Escarpment to its end in Mt. Ivy. Much of the route is through State Parks but the trail also serves as a link to smaller county and town parks. There is some road walking through the towns of Piermont and Upper Nyack. There are extensive views of the lower Hudson River valley along the way, with the most dramatic views on Hook Mountain and High Tor. This section of the trail continues through Harriman State Park. The Long Path crosses many woods roads and other trails within the park, making possible various loop hikes. The trail traverses hemlock forests and rhododendron groves, and passes by large swamps. After these, the trail climbs and follows along the long, linear ridge of Stockbridge Mountain. Upon descending from the mountain, the trail passes another swamp before reaching US Route 6.
