Recorrido a través de la sección o etapa 35 y última del Long Path, sendero de larga distancia que va desde la ciudad de Nueva York (George Washington Bridge) hasta el extremo norte del John Boyd Thacher State Park, en Altamont, próximo a Albany, capital del estado de Nueva York. El sendero completo tiene una longitud de 357 millas (575 kilómetros), repartidas aproximadamente en 35 etapas, con una extensión hacia el norte, hasta el interior del Adirondack Park.

Esta etapa discurre entre East Berne, Albany County, y el John Boyd Thacher State Park.

La etapa comienza rodeando la parte exterior de varios campos cultivados, y un pequeño bosquecito, para seguir después a través de rutas asfaltadas locales, hasta una de las entradas al John Boyd Thacher State Park, por la que discurre el resto del sendero.

El John Boyd Thacher State Park es un inmenso parque forestal, con abundante vegetación autóctona, y que cuenta con impresionantes miradores, desde la zona alta del Helderberg Escarpment .

Durante varios kilómetros se puede recorrer el borde de estos magníficos acantilados, disfrutando de unas sensacionales vistas panorámicas, que permiten contemplar en la lejanía, las montañas Adirondacks, al norte del estado de Nueva York; las montañas verdes de Vermont; toda la gran planicie de la ciudad de Albany, valles de los ríos Hudson y Mohawk, y hasta incluso el monte Greylock, en Massachussets.

En una parte de estos acantilados, que presentan numerosas cuevas y grietas escavadas por la naturaleza en la roca caliza, y una pequeña cascada (Minelot Falls), se encuentra el Indian Ladder Trail, por el que también pasa el Long Path, aunque este tramo del trayecto se cierra durante el invierno, debido a su peligrosidad.

La ¨escalera del indio¨ (Indian Ladder) fue utilizada por los indios iroqueses Mohawk para llegar al puesto comercial de Henry Hudson.

Tras la escalera del indio, el sendero continúa a través del parque, hasta alcanzar la Old Stage Road, donde concluye esta etapa 35 y donde finaliza también la parte del Long Path que es considerada como computable para la mención ¨End to End¨.

General Description
This section of the Long Path starts pleasantly as it passes through farm country. The section begins where the Long Path crosses NY Route 443 and follows a grassy road past a farm house to reach Stage Road. For the next mile the trail continues though fields and forests until it reaches Sawmill Road. The trail then continues along local roads to John Boyd Thacher State Park. The Long Path follows a series of trails through the park, emerging on the cliffs of the Helderberg Escarpment at the overlook on the north side of NY Route 157. Here, there are spectacular views northeast into Vermont. This ridge is made up of a core of limestone in which were found many fossils during the early days of geology in the 1800s. These fossils are known worldwide for their sequence from the Silurian to the Devonian eras. Early studies in this area helped lay the foundations for modern paleontology and geology. The Long Path then turns north and descends on the historic Indian Ladder Trail under the base of the cliffs, then follows the western boundary of John Boyd Thacher State Park northward. It continues north through the park along a newly constructed ski trail, with the Helderberg Escarpment to the right. The Long Path climbs to the top of the escarpment and heads in a generally northwest direction through the woods. The section ends at the north end of the park in the parking lot off Old Stage Road.
