UNITED STATES - NEW YORK - Bear Mountain, following a stretch of the Appalachian Trail and the Major Welch Trail

Circular walk starting from Hessian Lake, ascending to the top of Bear Mountain, following the path of the Appalachian Trail. Once at the top, we follow the Major Welch trail, identified with white markers with a red circle.
The ascent is steep, but with excellent layout and good stone stairs.
The descent is equally steep, with several granite slab ramps.
Spectacular views from the top of Bear Mountain, spotting New York City in the distance.

-----------

This loop hike climbs Bear Mountain on the Appalachian Trail and descends on the Major Welch Trail, passing a number of panoramic viewpoints.

A careful and detailed description of this section can be found on the official website of the NY-NJ Trail Conference .
