Leaving from the Alpine Boat Basin picnic area, we hiked the Closter Dock Trail until we reached the top of the cliff.
Next we take the Long Path trail heading north, passing the Park Headquarters building, the Gray Crag viewpoint, the Ruckman Point viewpoint, the Women´s Federation Monument (also with a spectacular view) and the State Line Lookout, where there is a cafeteria and small book and souvenir shop.
We take a break, and head north on the same Long Path trail (identified with green markings), to the border of the states of New Jersey and New York. There we find the Border Monument. We skirt around the back of the monolith that marks the dividing line of the states, and we quickly find another beautiful viewpoint, the High Gutter Point.
Follow a staircase path that descends towards a small river, and after the bridge that crosses it, we take the Short Trail on the right (identified in white lines). You pass through a nice area of small waterfalls, and finally you reach the Hudson River, with a nice view of the Peanut Leap Cascade.
From that point, and following the Short Trail (white color), we headed following the course of the river, heading south. We will cross areas of flat path, next to the river, but there is a section with enough difficulty (indicated as only suitable for experienced mountaineers), known as the Giant Stairs, which are actually large blocks of stone, detached from the cliff , and for one kilometer you have to climb and walk between those stone blocks, with the risk of ankle sprains and slips, if you are not careful and wear appropriate footwear.
After this point, the path becomes smooth and quite flat, until we reach the Alpine Boat Basin again, where we start the march.
