TO CONSIDER:
It is an easy route that always runs along a path parallel to the Soča river, passing through fir forests. From Trenta to Soca. It has a lot of shadows, some fonts at the beginning, end and 🏕️ in the campsites. The route is very green and with views of the Triglav.
DESCRIPTION:
We start the route in Trenta in the heart of the Triglav National Park. We leave the town and take a path along the Soča river, it is a beautiful alpine river with turquoise blue waters (very frequented by rafting enthusiasts) that in the clearings of the forest allows spectacular views of the Triglav
We take the path marked out by posts that says Soča Pot and we begin to follow the course of the river, towards the south. We cross the river several times by suspension bridges, some are higher and their instability cause some vertigo.
We are contemplating the river and the forest areas that delineate it, while we also enjoy the views of Triglav and the explanations of
our guide Juan Carlos:
It literally tells us that we have to READ THE MOUNTAIN ⛰️,
."We are on a glacial platform that occupied this valley. In the Quaternary there was an ice platform about 400 / 500 m deep, it was a U-shaped glacier.
Later the fluvial cleft was made"
"Vertical strata and limestone rocks formed by the plates of the earth's crust that have been fracturing and/or folding. The limestone here is more porous and more carbohydrate"
The waters of the Soča river are crystal clear, at some point they take on a bluish color; Although we are already in summer the water is very cold.
We stopped to eat at the 🏕️ Korita campsite, we had some beers that tasted heavenly and we continued our journey, we only have 2km left to finish the route, in Soča.
We stopped at the Soča church that is open, it is very simple but beautiful. There is also a bar but it is closed.
We are lucky because there is a fountain next to the Church with very fresh water 💧 which we collect while we wait for our bus 🚌.
End of the route 🍀
A BIT OF GEOGRAPHY AND HISTORY:
Triglav National Park is the only national park in Slovenia. It gets its name from Mount Triglav, a national symbol of Slovenia. Triglav, the country's highest mountain at 2,864 m asl, is almost in the middle of the national park.
The Isonzo/Soča River is a 140 km long river that originates in the Julian Alps, flows through Slovenia and passes into Italy to flow into the Adriatic Sea.
The Soča valley (or Isonzo valley) was the scene of one of the largest war operations of the First World War, between May 1915 and November 1917. During that period, the Twelve Battles of Isonzo took place on the Italian Front, in which more than 300,000 Italian and Austro-Hungarian soldiers lost their lives.
