Itinerary description

After the village there is a wavy road with few traffic. You walk through an area with pine-wood and then by crop land and limestone cliffs with sheep. Sukranli is a village with small farms and dilapidated structures.

From a distance Ҫukurca is hidden in a valley and raises up slowly. At first the Ҫami appears and after it the roofs of the houses.

There you find nice accommodation at Midas Han, hotel, inn and camp ground. It has been built by the archaeologists Ben Claasz Coockson and Nihal Temucin-Czichon.

Sukranli

Sukranli, the village after Saricaillias seems deserted. Although it is inhabited, I see nobody till the iman starts his prayers. Behind the houses are rising hills of sand-lime bricks.

Changing Landscape

Along the edge of the fields there are rising limestone plateaus. Dark hollows mark ancient tombs or hiding places of ancient living. The road is curving through the green area.

Midashan

Midas Han offers a comfortable place to stay. It is an accomodation for tourists who want to explore the Phrygian Highlands with its wild nature and geology. In the neighbourhood are many archaeological monuments and sites. Hikers can stay here on their way along the Phrygian Way. It was nice there and I could talk with Ben in Dutch.

Ancient Grave Chamber

Gerdekkaya: Hellenistic chamber tomb with temple facade. Later reused ın the Byzantine Periode. In the surroundıng are many Byz. arcosolium cist graves.
