Itinerary description
Favourite trail. Not done since pre covid. Starting Enoggera Resovoir, approx 8k hike up Sth Boundary Rd. On the, way, my side trip to the North Portal of the old pipe that connected Gold Creek Resovoir to Enoggera Resovoir ,since been decomissioned.( Courtesy of JelBuilder you tube and Wikiloc) This was a valuable piece of engineering in the turn of the century as Brisbane water needs grew as its population grew. Contiue to the junction and Turn Hillier Rd, continue down the bitumen rd, there is small clearing on side, where track heads to Gold Creek. At Gold Creek, prohibited to walk the bottom spillway now,. This Spillway was the first of its kind in the world when it was built. So, follow track to top of Resovoir, and cut across overflow area to meet original track. Follow track to approx 1/2 way around dam, head up a creek, entrance track bit overgrown, but you will find once you climb creek bank. Fairly easy to follow to the top to meet Sth Boundary Rd again.Short distance walk, you will see track off from road, between a couple of trees. Follow this track down to meet Enoggerra creek. Follow creek to cross Centre Rd. From here, great ribboned track to big Fig Tree. There are a lot of ribbons around the fig tree, look for ribbons that lead you back into the creek on the right side of Fig Tree. Continuing along ribbon track will bring to a ribbon on tree and wood seat, with a track to the left heading up . This leads to the old Mt Arum Mine from 1930's. Enter if you dare!! Lots of micro bats!! Track continues up to Mt Arum, passing an old cement trough, possibly for livestock then. There is a Cairn at top of Mt Arum, with a Geocache container in the loose rocks. Continue trail to meet Duck Creek Rd, following till turn off to meet the flat Acuracia Track of Enoggera Resovoir, taking you back to the start, passing the swimming area for a good swim here after a great hike. Then back to carpark.
Its a great hike with firetrail, off track, history , creek trails, old mine, vistas, and a great swim afterwards.
