Itinerary description
Leaving the village of Enniskerry, climb the hill & turn right into Powerscourt Estate.
After stopping for coffee & a scone, keep left after exiting & pass the garden centre & the distillery. At this point there's a gate which you need to pass through. We were fortunate as a car pulled up & they had access. Follow the road through the Estate, turn right & walk alongside the Dargle River. This part of the walk is especially beautiful.
After a few km we arrived at a low gate which we were easily able to climb over. Turn right & then left at Oonagh Bridge.
Follow the lane up to the main road, turn right & then left into Crone Woods.
This part of the walk has good coverage, thankfully as we had some strong winds & some showers.
After a few km climbing steadily the path opens out to a superb view over Powerscourt waterfall.
This is a good area to take a break with a couple of benches to rest.
Follow the path for another 500m, take a sharp left. And drop to the Dargle.
This was a great place to picnic.
It's a steady climb up from here to the base of Douce. You have a choice here whether to include Douce but, we were running out of time so, we headed on to White Hill. Soon you arrive at the start of the railway sleeper boardwalk which, initially runs for about 2.5 km.
Eventually you come to an excellent view over Lough Tay & the beautiful memorial to JB Malone.
Further along a new section of the Way keeps you off the main road & passes through Ballinstoe Woods.
This is a really beautiful part of the walk & a superb addition to the walk.
Soon you arrive out on the main road & at this stage we left the Way & followed the main road down & turn right for Lus Mór B&B / hostel.
