Itinerary description
A beautiful walk that will take you through some of the more remote and authentic villages of Upper Svaneti. Starting point of this hike is close to the Ughviri pass, on the road towards Ushguli, which is approximately one hour by taxi from Mestia. The first takes you through scenic Tsvirmi, overlooked by the towering icey hulk of Mount Shkara in the background. The following stretch takes you over an ancient sledge track, used by villagers in wintertime. There are magnificent views of the Enguri river and the Svaneti range on your left. After passing the remote hamlet of Leli, the track changes into a dirtroad. This final stretch takes at least 3 hours to cover and covers dense woodlands with little scenic value. It is therefore recommendable to be picked up by taxi from Mestia.
