After a curious train journey through the highlands of Sri Lanka, we arrived in Ella, a very special and charming city. On this first day here, we will visit two of the main tourist attractions, Little Adam's Peak (1,146 m) and Nine Arches Bridge.
START:
We start the route from our accommodation in Ella, very well located, in the center of the city, very close to all the bars and restaurants and among the main attractions of the area.
DESCRIPTION:
We began walking, following a detour towards the main street of Ella, a street that houses most of Ella's cafes and restaurants. This street has a lot of atmosphere and will leave Ella towards the east.
Soon we leave the busiest area behind, arriving at the intersection where we begin the circular section of the route. We will continue along this same street, while to the left, we see a detour towards Nine Arches Bridge, the famous bridge with 9 arches that we will later see. We will return through this detour.
We continue one more detour and move away from Ella, having beautiful views of the valley and the many tea fields around here. Also visible are the two best-known mountains in the area, Little Adam's Peak and Ella Rock.
After completing the first two kilometers, we reach the detour to Little Adam's Peak, perfectly signposted. The path becomes more rustic and we begin to advance halfway up the slope, towards the beginning of the ascent. Along the way, we can enjoy a nice zip line that takes you to the center of the city.
Having completed this small section, we reach a beautiful viewpoint, where we find a couple of detours to continue. So far, without problems or major unevenness. From this point, stairs and up!
We have little left, and the difference in elevation is not too much, but we must gain height in a short distance. We climb a few steps and finish the ascent through a narrow and demanding path, always without complications.
We are at Little Adam's Peak (1,146 m). A modest summit that has stunning views of Ella and the environment that surrounds us. Tremendous panoramic view of Ella Rock and beautiful mountain range that appears in front. A good time enjoying your summit!
After enjoying the main summit of Little Adam's Peak, we decided to walk along its ridge, in order to obtain different views of Ella. We overcome small slopes, some steeper than others, and we are at other secondary elevations, from where we can see the beautiful summit of Little Adam's Peak and Ravana Falls, waterfalls that we will soon visit.
After enjoying the upper part of Little Adam's Peak, we returned to the signposted detour, descending the narrow path and leaving behind the numerous steps and the viewpoint.
Once again on a comfortable path, we continued the route towards Nine Arches Bridges, following several detours along the road. A stretch that does not offer us many incentives...
After completing this section through an inhabited place, we must follow a very inconspicuous and signposted detour. Much attention here! We leave the path wide and descend sharply, turning left.
During the descent we take extreme caution, as the path is covered with a lot of dirt and loose stones. Soon we began to have views towards Nine Arches Bridge, a spectacular bridge!
After completing this small and demanding section, we turn left, now continuing along the tracks. Many sections of the route advance along the tracks, and it should be noted that trains pass, so extreme caution.
In a few minutes, we arrived at Nine Arches Bridge, a spectacular bridge. Famous for its nine arches and impressive architecture. A good time in the area, lots of people and tremendous views of the valley! The place is beautiful!
After passing Nine Arches Bridge, just before the tunnel, we turn left, slightly ascending towards Ella. The detour is very easy to identify.
We are facing the last unknown part, a very beautiful path that advances surrounded by vegetation. A look back allows us to contemplate another beautiful image of Nine Arches Bridgel Last Effort, a bridge that we crossed and several detours to continue on the correct course towards Ella.
In a few minutes we are in Ella, at the turnoff towards Nine Arches Bridge that we found at the beginning of the route. Here we just have to turn right and continue towards the city.
We finish the route along the main street of Ella, enjoying the atmosphere and reaching our accommodation, where we put an end to the day.
CONCLUSION:
Beautiful circular route, mandatory when passing through Ella. A simple, very beautiful route with which we can visit Little Adam's Peak (1,146 m) and Nine Arches Bridge, two of the most interesting points in the area. A day that we will not forget and with some scandalous landscapes. Highly recommended!
